In Estonia, one of the former Soviet Union countries, the proposal to hold a referendum for the unification of the country with Russia came to the agenda in the parliament. The proposal came from the opposition Reform Party. Estonian Prime Minister Jury Ratas stated in his post on his Facebook page that it is not possible to hold a referendum for the unification of his country with Russia.

Emphasizing that the independence and sovereignty of Estonia is the first article of the constitution, Rates said, “All Estonian political forces should definitely condemn this proposal”. Three lawmakers from the opposition Reform Party suggested that the referendum on the definition of marriage should include the issue of “unification with Russia”, but later this proposal was withdrawn.
Henn Polluaas, President of the Estonian Parliament, called on the members of the Reform Party to apologize publicly for this proposal. After the stage of legalization of same-sex marriages, the Estonian Parliament decided to go to a referendum to decide whether marriages were “unity between men and women”.
