The Municipality of Milan said in a statement on the subject, “This measure has two aims: to help reduce particles (PM10) harmful to the lungs and to protect the health of citizens, including children, from the effects of active or passive smoking in public places.”
According to a report published by the World Health Organization in 2018, the cities of Italy’s Turin, Milan and Naples are the cities with the highest proportion of air-polluting particles across the EU.
